Float values explained

Everything about wear in CS2: the exact ranges, skins with unusual limits, and what clean really costs.

The five exteriors

ExteriorFloat range
Factory New (FN)0.00 – 0.07
Minimal Wear (MW)0.07 – 0.15
Field-Tested (FT)0.15 – 0.38
Well-Worn (WW)0.38 – 0.45
Battle-Scarred (BS)0.45 – 1.00

Every skin also has its own float limits. A skin with a range of 0.10 – 0.70, for example, skips Factory New entirely, and a skin capped at 0.08 only comes in Factory New and Minimal Wear. Each skin page on SkinRate shows its exact range on a bar.

What clean costs

Across 1008 skins listed in both exteriors, Factory New costs about 3.7× the Field-Tested price (median, lowest Skinport listings). On cheap skins the gap is small in dollars; on high-tier skins it can be the biggest factor in the price.

Skins that can never be Factory New (61)

Factory New and Minimal Wear only (125)

These finishes are capped at a float of 0.08, including Dopplers, Gamma Dopplers, Fades and Marble Fades.

Pattern seeds

Besides float, every item has a pattern seed from 0 to 1000 that positions the finish on the model. On Case Hardened it decides how much blue shows; on Fade it sets the fade percentage; on Marble Fade it produces patterns like Fire & Ice. On any SkinRate skin page you can enter a seed and float and open that exact combination in CS2 with Inspect in game, for example on the AK-47 Case Hardened.

FAQ

What is a float value in CS2?

Float is a number between 0 and 1 that sets how worn a skin looks. Lower is cleaner. The exterior name (Factory New to Battle-Scarred) is just a label for a float range.

Why can't some skins be Factory New?

Each skin has its own minimum and maximum float. 61 finishes start at 0.07 or higher, so they can never be Factory New.

How much more does Factory New cost?

Across 1008 skins listed in both exteriors, Factory New typically costs about 3.7× the Field-Tested price (median).

What is a pattern seed?

A number from 0 to 1000 that decides how the finish is placed on the weapon. On most skins it changes little, but on patterns like Case Hardened, Fade or Marble Fade it can change the value a lot.
